12's Black Plays Strong and Move up in Rankings

Our team started our first power league ranked 14th.  Our first match in pool play was against #30 Willamette Valley 12 Gold.  We started out the morning a little sluggish, but won the first game 25-12 with strong serving by Rachel.  The second game was a little closer, but thirteen straight serves by Callie put the game away.  We won 25-18.

Our second match was against #19 Webfoot Silver.  We came out on fire with Bailee connecting on fourteen straight serves.  We won easily 25-3.  In the second game, Emma served six in a row to pull away for a 25-10 victory.  Our pool play concluded with a match against #3 PVC Pink.  Their serving and serve receive was much better than what we had seen earlier in the morning.  We lost 25-11 and 25-7.  We concluded pool play with a 2-1 record and the second seed from our pool.  Our reward was a match against #2 Excell NW in the crossover bracket.  Both teams brought their A-game with neither team gaining much of a lead.  We played great team ball and our defense was the best it has been all season.  We lost the first game 26-24.  When we realized we could play with one of the top teams in the region, we came out with some fire and passion for the second game and won 25-21 (Excell NW's first game loss of the tournament). In the decisive third game, we spotted Excell a 7-2 lead before mounting a comeback that fell short 15-12.  Our final tournament game was against #11 Webfoot 12 Gold.  With our confidence building, we won fairly easily 25-15, 25-9 with great serving by Callie, Anna, and Anjola. We concluded our first power league by moving up three places to #11.  It shouldn't be too long before we are in the gold bracket.
